From prototype to serial production: PRORING Latvia producing parts for various sectors
PRORING Latvia is a Latvian company with more than 10 years of experience in manufacturing and vehicle servicing. The company specialises in metal processing offering parts used in various industries, including mechanical engineering, aviation, energy and healthcare.
One of the company's strengths is its flexibility – it manufactures components for both local customers and for export, mostly to the Nordic countries. About 15% of the company’s products are exported while the focus is still the local Latvian market. The parts produced are also used in innovative solutions, such as drones manufactured by Latvian companies and in wind generator maintenance robot technologies.
To improve precision and efficiency, in 2023 PRORING Latvia took advantage of the support programme offered by the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) to purchase a new CNC milling workbench with specialised software.
“Previously, we manufactured parts using manual workbenches which increased the possibility of human error leading to a higher percentage of spoilage. With the new CNC workbench, the part manufacturing process is now fully automated – a 3D prototype of the part is designed in the computer, the programme generates a processing code, and the workbench produces the part with a high degree of precision. This significantly reduces the possibility of flaws and increases production efficiency,” Alfrēds Lazdiņš, CEO of the company, explains.
He also notes that the process of securing support was straightforward and relatively simple. “To verify our eligibility for the support, we first filled out the digital maturity assessment offered by the European Digital Innovation Hub. That helped us understand which types of support would be best suited for our company. It took about eight months from submitting our application to obtaining the funding. Of course, entrepreneurs would like the process to be even quicker, however, I understand that use of public funds requires certain formalities to be performed,” Mr Lazdiņš adds.
Targeted investments in modernising the manufacturing process are one of the key factors that has allowed PRORING Latvia to significantly expand its operations and attain stable growth: over the last three years, the company’s turnover has seen an annual increase of approximately 40%. Turnover in 2024 reached EUR 1.45 million, which is a marked increase from 2023, when the company’s annual turnover totalled EUR 1.05 million.
PRORING Latvia is looking confidently to the future and planning to use other state support tools as well. Currently, the company is implementing a digitalisation and energy efficiency improvement project which will entail upgrading its factory and installing solar panels.
