Primekss creates the world’s first climate neutral concrete floor solution

Latvian company Primekss, which has been developing innovative solutions for construction with concrete for over 25 years already, has launched a brand-new solution: carbon-neutral industrial flooring PRĪMX PURE. Symbolically, the company chose Earth Day in late April as the official launch date of the new product as this is a day when environmental issues are brought to the forefront globally. The company emphasises that PRĪMX PURE is the first carbon-neutral concrete flooring in the world. Its emissions throughout the lifecycle of the product are below zero, meaning that the product significantly surpasses the 2030 targets for reducing emissions set internationally for the construction sector.

Primekss is one of Latvia’s leading exporters. Its patented concrete technology PrīmX® is widely used throughout Northern Europe, the United States and elsewhere around the world. According to the company, the new PRĪMX PURE solution is the result of more than two decades of research combined with advances in engineering and practical experience in designing and construction of large-scale industrial flooring. The solution is intended for sites which value not just technical durability and precision, but also high environmental efficiency.

PRĪMX PURE is climate neutral thanks to a complex approach: the product has been designed with especially low CO2 emissions due to the reduced cross-sectional structure of the flooring, low-carbon cement, use of additional materials and recycled steel fibres. The emissions which are technologically impossible to prevent completely are fully offset through independently certified carbon credits. This results in the solution being completely carbon neutral throughout the lifecycle of the product.

Considering the significant impact that the construction sector has on global emissions and international climate targets set for 2030, the net zero aspect is becoming increasingly important. PRĪMX PURE is intended for projects where sustainability is a special focus alongside technical requirements; those could be logistics centres, production facilities and other industrial structures.

“This lays the ground for a new era in construction. We are proving that the most robust solutions can also be the smartest for our planet. In Roman times, construction lasted centuries, in that same vein, by building smartly, not excessively we believe that innovation through engineering will allow bold builders to shape the future,” Jānis Ošlejs, CEO of Primekss, says.

Through innovation and technological development Primekss is regularly investing in research and development of prototypes. In 2020 the company took advantage of the innovation voucher programme provided by the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) to develop a new sensor for measuring relative deformation of concrete. Integrated into concrete as it is being poured, this sensor allows for remote monitoring of the condition of the material, which is especially important during the first year after the concrete is laid as significant structural changes take place.

Primekss currently employs more than 500 employees, and the company’s 2024 turnover reached EUR 110 million. This success has been made possible thanks to a structured innovation approach and a clear focus on international markets. The company’s patented steel fibre reinforced self-stressing concrete technology PrīmX is used throughout the world in the construction of lasting, smooth, dimensionally stable and seamless concrete flooring, as well as other structural elements. The company has its own concrete R&D centre which ensures constant technological development, and a structural engineering department offering full-cycle solutions with a warranty.
