Pioneering tech company Naco Technologies receives prestigious award

In a tight competition with 30 start-ups from 15 countries around the world, this autumn, Latvian company Naco Technologies gained international recognition by receiving the European Hydrogen Valleys and Investors’ Award. The award, presented at the Tech Tour Conference, spotlights the company’s innovations in using renewable energy resources and its contribution in developing green hydrogen technologies. Green hydrogen technologies are rapidly becoming a corner stone in mitigating climate change by providing sustainable solutions in energy and manufacturing.

Naco Technologies develop unique nano coatings which are crucial for the durability and efficiency of hydrogen production and application technologies. These coatings protect the components of hydrogen systems from corrosion, thus significantly extending their service life and reducing the need for using rare precious metals, such as platinum and iridium. As a result, the company’s innovations not only facilitate a reduction of the price of green technologies, but also make them more readily available to a wider range of industrial sectors.

At the end of last year, Naco Technologies successfully moved forward from the researching phase into active production by opening a modern pilot production facility in Riga. The company’s client portfolio currently includes global level players such as Siemens Energy, ThyssenKrupp Nucera, Toyota, Ballard and Hyundai. 

Green hydrogen: the energy source of the future

Green hydrogen obtained through using renewable energy in water electrolysis, is an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional fossil fuels. This energy source is considered to be one of the main tools for reducing emissions in manufacturing, transport and energy storage. However, until now technological obstacles, including prohibitive costs and issues with equipment durability have hindered broader application of green hydrogen.

And this is where Naco Technologies comes in: the company’s nano coatings allow for a significant reduction of the cost of technological equipment and extend their service life making green hydrogen technologies more attractive to investors and users.
