Meeting of Vice-Presidents of the Economic and Financial Committee at EU level
Meeting in Riga on Friday, 8th of October, in epidemiologically safe conditions, the European Union (EU) level Economic and Financial Committee (EFC-A) meeting takes place. Latvia is the first EU Member State to host such an event, and it is only the second such event since the European Central Bank organised it in 2019.
During the meeting, the European Court of Auditors' special report on post-programme monitoring will be discussed, with particular attention being paid to the surveillance programmes of five EU Member States (Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Cyprus and Greece). Participants will also make their proposals to improve their monitoring programmes in the future.
A representative of Eurostat will report on the statistical accounting issues of the Recovery Fund. The participants will also discuss the future of the European Semester, as well as the reports of the Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation on the euro area and the EU. In the afternoon, the participants will have a workshop on the global and EU economy, following Covid-19, where experts from Financial Times , the European Central Bank and other organisations will present their views. The presentation will be followed by member discussions.
EU Economic and Financial Committee shall participate in the informal EFC-A meeting. Latvia shall be represented at the meeting by the Director of the Finance Ministry's Fiscal Policy Department Nils Sakss and advisor to the Bank of Latvia at the Permanent Representation to the EU Antra Trenko.
