Linearis developing artificial intelligence solution for interpreting

With the support of the innovation voucher programme of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA), Latvian company Linearis has developed an artificial intelligence (AI) solution for interpreting that allows real-time interpretation of speech into different languages. The new technology will be available to users as an easry-to-use application. 

The developed tool is capable of simultaneously translating speech and synthesizing voice, which means that, for example, what a speaker says at an event is immediately played back in another language. The solution is particularly useful for conferences, seminars, lectures, or online webinars attended by people from different countries. It significantly reduces costs, as there is no need for multiple interpreters, interpretation booths, or complex equipment. 

“The advantage of our solution is its simplicity and accessibility. Anyone can use it – no additional technical staff or special knowledge is required,” says company representative Voldemārs Brēdiķis. “In addition, the algorithms we use make interpretation more efficient and of higher quality, while preserving the meaning and natural flow of what is said.” 

Currently, the solution offers interpretation between 32 languages, but the Linearis team is ready to integrate other languages according to customer demand. The app is currently in the testing phase, involving the company’s existing customers, and will soon be available on the market. 

In implementing the project, LIAA’s innovation voucher support was used for a specific purpose – in-depth market research. This allowed the Linearis team to analyse existing solutions with similar functions and develop the ideal version of the product to truly meet customer needs. “The innovation voucher gave us the opportunity to analyse the market and build a solution that is not only technologically powerful and superior to its competitors, but also easy to use,” Mr Brēdiķis explains. 

In addition to the AI interpreting tool, Linearis is also developing other technological solutions that are gradually becoming stand-alone products. One of these is an automatic subtitling tool for video content, which allows subtitles to be produced quickly and accurately in different languages, significantly reducing the amount of manual work. Another solution is a text translation quality control system that uses AI algorithms to identify grammatical and stylistic errors and suggest corrections. “Many of our technological tools were originally created for the company’s internal needs to improve work efficiency. However, seeing their potential and interest from customers, we decided to commercialise them as well,” Mr Brēdiķis says. 

The company is proud that it can carry out a large part of the technical work in product development on its own, because, as Mr Brēdiķis reveals, almost every employee of the company has knowledge of programming and data processing. This allows the team to quickly prototype ideas, test them in practice, and turn them into actual products. “The fact that our team also understands code essentially makes us a unique company in the industry,” Mr Brēdiķis adds. “We can create solutions specifically for our work without waiting for someone else to develop a tool that suits our needs.” 

Linearis has been operating since 2003, providing translation and interpretation services both in Latvia and internationally. The company has branches in Estonia, Lithuania, China, and the United States, and employs around 20 specialists. Linearis’ customer portfolio includes event organizers, training providers, government agencies, media companies, and corporations that regularly hold international events online.
